For the past four years, Jim has been living in a tent in the San Jose creek area, vulnerable to the elements and to drug culture. Now he’s in the process of being housed. In this new interview, he describes barriers for creek residents, and shares his own story.
MEET DAVID*, A LOCAL DISABLED MAN. The rental company evicted him when his disability checks arrived late. Then no other place would take him–why? Because of the eviction on his record. The property sat empty for eight months after he left.
MEET CAMILLE, A DISABLED, WORKING WOMAN. She ended up homeless because of a heart problem, and wound up selling drugs to survive.
MEET SAM AND TINA, A DISABLED COUPLE. They were forced out of housing by rising rents, and are working on getting benefits so they can make a new home together.
MEET JAY, A LOCAL WORKING VETERAN. He grew up in San Jose and is an ordained minister.
